![]() This way you get the glorious sound of the ISA ONE fed right into the Saffire without going through any Mic Pres. If you have an ISA ONE with the digital card fitted then all you need is a short optical lead to go from the ADAT out on the ISA ONE to the ADAT IN on the Saffire Pro 40. Jemusic wroteOK I was not sure what you owned or not. You should only need one of those outs from the 9 pin. You will need a RCA male to RCA male but good digital quality here. Looks like that will connect into the SPDIF INPUT on your Saffire too. You will need to read up on the digital card option to find out. Note sure how that works, They may give you the option of sending down any selected ADAT channel. I guess the ISA ONE must be sending a single channel of audio down one of the ADAT channels. Then you just setup the ADAT inputs as well as the analog inputs from the Saffire in your IN/OUT settings in Studio One. Hopefully the Vocal Rider won't get me too many problems. I've had really good results with Waves Bass Rider in the past. It's what I have to work with unless I use my Focusrite 2i2 2nd Gen. Between that, the SM7B and Mogami cables it will be a super clean signal.Īs for replacing the Pro 40? Maybe before too long but no can do right now. I also bought a special breakout digital cable for it (linked below). Jemusic wroteThat digital card for the ISA One is also expensive! This would sound better and you are bypassing the Saffire Pro Mic preamps altogether.ĭon't I know it! I bought 2 ISA Ones. I don't know though, I haven't looked at that. but that may be an option as well using its input and going into the Pro 40 with its SPDIF. I plan to get back when I have time to our discussion on the Digitech VLP. Bypass the Saffire preamps by using the AD Card on the ISA via ADAT on the Pro 40. So, in line mode, they would be using less gain. They say however they are transparent enough not to colour the signal. That info is actually on the Focusrite website. Firstly the Mic Preamps on the Saffire Pro 40 are not bypassed even when feeding line level signals into the jack part of the combo input. Manual editing on vocals is hard to beat. In some cases I have got a better vocal sound by not using it all and just doing some vocal editing (eg chopping vocals up and altering gains in quieter sections here and there and pulling louder bits down manually) and some light compression following. ![]() Vocal Rider is a cool and useful plugin but watch out also. You will get a great quality signal going to the DAW from the SM7B. And this applies to most quality interfaces these days. If it was me, I would replace the Saffire Pro 40 with something new and modern and with classy Mic Pres on board. That digital card for the ISA One is also expensive! This would sound better and you are bypassing the Saffire Pro Mic preamps altogether. You can convert from one to the other though via a converter. Except the SPDIF on the ISA One is the optical connection, not the RCA connection. You can feed into the ADAT input of the Saffire Pro 40 though and from the ADAT out of the digital card for the ISA One. It may be better but then again the Saffire preamp is still in series. ![]() So, in line mode, they would be using less gain.īut I am not sure feeding the ISA One into the Saffire Pro 40 is going to achieve a lot.
